Chanel Bans Fur and Exotic Animal Skins

Chanel has joined other luxury fashion brands in banning the use of fur and exotic animal skins in its products. The exotic skins being banned include crocodile, snake, lizard and stingray (which can be used in the creation of leather). Uniting with brands such as Versace, Michael Kors and Gucci to stop the unnecessary use of animals in fashion. Chanel receives praise from much of their younger market. The brand explained this decision by stating that it was increasingly difficult to find skins that were a Chanel quality fit, design-wise and ethically.

As vegetarians, vegans and PETA members rejoice around the world there is still a dark cloud in the distance. Brands such as Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford and Prada still use fur within their garments and accessories. This though is a step in the right direction and one if popular with consumers will force other retailers in the direction of, so shop wisely!

Balmain Gets A New Logo

On Tuesday the French luxury brand rebranded with a sleek yet simple logo, for the first time in 70 years. Creative director Olivier Rousteing explaining the logo, designed by Adulte Adulte, to be "a contemporary, clean and bold logo for this historic house." The brand known for being a favourite of the Kardashians payed homage to their founder, Pierre Balmain, by included an additional line within the B, to create a hidden P for Pierre.

This logo revamp joins other strategic moves recently taken by the brand, such as: introducing handbags, relaunching their couture collections, changing pricing strategies and closing smaller diffusion lines. 2019 will be the year to watch Olivier Rousteing and his team for the next steps in Balmain’s growth.

Lowest Ever Ratings for Victoria Secret Show

Ed Razek’s controversial comments continue to plague the Victoria Secret brand as only 3.3 million tuned in to watch the annual show on Sunday night. Viewing numbers have dropped dramatically year-on-year, the 2017 show being viewed by 5 million and in 2013 by a staggering 9 million. Though, this may not be solely due to Ed Razek’s comments on plus sized and transgender models, but a number of factors.

This year the show was broadcast on a Sunday night, when traditionally they have always chosen a Tuesday; therefore, the competition for viewers is higher.

The brand is also unique in the way it waits to broadcast it’s shows, by posting of lots of looks, behind-the-scenes videos and snippets in the run up.

Many viewers feel that once they have seen these and individual model’s posts and looks from the shows that they don’t feel the need to watch the whole display. The brand will post any performance in separate shorter videos on YouTube after, so a watcher has no need to see the whole show but the 5 minute clip they desire.

All in all, Victoria Secret seems to be going from issue to downfall to dilemma currently.

Keep an eye on our Weekly Fashion Refresh as we hope for some good news for Victoria's Secret soon.
