From Milan to Hollywood: Gucci Love Parade

On Tuesday 2nd November Hollywood Boulevard shutdown for Gucci’s Love Parade.

After leaving the fashion calendar when Covid hit, creative director, Alessandro Michele, selected the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, LA to debut the colourful collection. From sexy, to statement, we saw it all!

Like many other fashion followers, I found out about the show through social media. Famous guests headed to Instagram to post their extravagant looks online, some of whom as took part in walking the show.

I personally first saw Miley Cyrus and Lizzo’s iconic post together with the two of them in very individual looks for the event.

Other stars that made the guest list were, Billie Eilish, Dakota Johnson, Paul Mescal, James Corden, Tyler the Creator and Gwyneth Paltrow.

All the guests wore elaborate outfits whilst attending the show, keeping up with the fun, retro and quirky style known for Gucci.

The celebrities cast in the show included Jared Leto, Macaulay Culkin, Jodie Turner-Smith, St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Steve Lacy, and Miranda July. Each of them dressed in elaborate designs with multiple layers, new shapes and quirky patterns.

Jared Leto, who stars in the upcoming film House of Gucci, hit the catwalk in an oversized double breasted blazer with no shirt, laced leather white trousers and white boots.

Culkin wore a colourful jacket with a blue Hawaiian-styled shirt, brown trousers and a white Gucci belt.

Phoebe Bridges was dressed in a collarless black satin box coat paired with snakeskin boots and black laced gloves.

For this collection Michele took inspiration from old Hollywood and its cinematic wardrobes, presenting a nostalgic line full of feathered gowns, faux fur coats, diamond tiaras, crop tops, wide leg trousers and voluminous dresses.

His own signature brand of quirk could be seen through the off combinations of hot pants and grandma cardigans, animal-eared beanies and bow ties, and lace-up leather gloves with shield sunglasses.

The collection itself included over 100 different looks worn by famed supermodels, including Quannah Chasinghorse and Tess McMillan, marking the first time Gucci has ever included plus-size models on the runway.

In classic Gucci style, less is never more. Layers upon layers, feathers, furry stoles, satin, and floor-sweeping, sequin-speckled trains mixed with logofied leggings, nipple pasties, ombré chain mail, fishnets, cutout corsets, and tropical prints marrying old ideas of classical glamour with an edgy and redefined design.

Models were seen wearing chunky silver platform shoes, patent leather flats and white pointy boots, with several outfits incorporating face jewellery around the nose and cheekbones.

Colour formed a key part of the show with lavender, teal and hot pink suits along with metallic and gold gowns all making an appearance.

I have always kept my eye on Gucci's designs. The quirkiness and constant creation of extravagant and wacky designs, has always stood out to me against other brands. This season, I particularly loved how, unlikely normally, where fashion creatives stick to one era or story as influence for their designs, the Love Parade show drew on multiple historical moments from fashion. From lace to latex, I'm excited to see what the A/W collection has in store for us.

Reinventing yourself- Is your outfit key?

Fashion means something different to everyone. For some, it’s an art. For others, a hinderance. Maybe it seems pointless, or shallow, maybe you want to look like a model. But regardless of your view,
